Default Cheap repair - Broken door panel retainer slots

We all know that most people shouldn't even try to repair a vehicle. Those who try; you know, the ones who are self proclaimed mechanics, but in fact, are mentally retarded...will pull a door panel off with the claw end of a hammer or a screwdriver in 22 degree weather, which causes the door panel retainer slots to shatter.

the retainer slots on our trucks are elongated a bit with a narrow slit to allow the "christmas tree" style Chrysler retainers to slide in.
What do we do when we buy a truck that has had all, or most, of the slots shattered which leaves the hollow slot without the slit to slide the retainer into?

this panel is from a caravan, so it's different, just showing the slots.

Autozone sells a pack of six metal spring style retainers for the Ford ranger, taurus, etc. that will work on the broken slots missing the slits. They just hook in and snapp into the door frame. Dorman Part #961-080 and run $2.49 a box
