Dakota Suregrip Options?

93 Dakota with a AX-15 and 360. Currently has open 8.25" rear diff and looking for some suregrip options, has anyone done a 9.25" posi swap? Seems like these are much easier to come by and cheaper than a locker or 8.25" suregrip rear. Leaving two lines is a whole lot more exciting than one! :icon_steer:

Some good information here.

i did this. sorry its a cut & past. and a little jamed together.

i just had my V-6 2001 dak changed from 3.55 to a 4.10. my friends here told me i DONT want 4.56s. iam very happy with my 4.10. my MPG went from 9 to 13, in town ONLY. cause the trans shifts it overdrive at 35 mph, that gives it the 13 mpg. i do not think you will like 4.56, unless its a street racer.*motive*gear*4.10 gears C8.25-4.10, dana/spicer locker 84852, install kit DRK303B, 75W90 synthetic*gear*lube VV975. my shop would NOT give the swap any warranty. the no warranty is cause its not stock. but the labor is. other shops may be different. i have had this since 7.28.11, and it is very good. did good in the 12" snow.

Thanks, finding the 8.25 sure grip units seem impossible so I've been looking to the cheapest option otherwise. I believe the perches on a 9.25 need to be moved to get it to fit under my Dakota. Did first or second gen Dakotas commonly come with 8.25 sure grip or is that just too good to be true?

My '91 Dakota has a factory LSD, with an 8.25 rear. If you're looking for one out of a junker though, good luck finding one with good clutch packs.

RockAuto has Dana Spicer TracLok Posi rear ends for an 8.25 for about $350, Auburn Gear for about $550, and Eaton for about $700.

They did come on the 1st and 2nd gen Dak's as options but good luck finding one, this is probably your best bet.

AX-15 and a 360 :icon_lolsign: :icon_steer::icon_couchhide::icon_violin:

That won't last long... Especially with a sure grip.
