Also does anyone know since my battery was disconnected in the last 50 key cycles will that cause it to fail my emissions test?

no.... but it would need to relearn so if was just done its possible... but with O2 sensor issue that would cause emission fail

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_sensor
its a direct part of emission control, also i do beleive your truck is OBD2 so you might have 2 O2's one by manifold on close to engine and one behind the catalytic converter

I do have two oxygen sensors and I plan on puting new ngk o2 sensors in on Friday before I take it to get inspection and emissions done. "The ones in it are bad". Circut malfunction " to many volts" and won't read the mixture. They are original from 96 and have 225980 miles on them. I don't think that's to bad for oem stock o2s. My other ? Is what's better ngk or njk? Napa carries ngk here and advanced carries njk.

NTK is most common

Ok thank you again

Well I went and got my o2 sensors today. It turns out that they are ntk so that's a plus I guess. Now if only it will stop raining long enough for me to put them in and see if my cel comes back on.

Update* Well it stopped raining and I put my oxygen sensors in, my Dakota has been running for around 20 minutes now and is up to temp and no check engine light so I must have done something right. I also dumped in a full bottle of fuel injector cleaner to clean my injectors. So far so good now to go get it inspected and my emissions done on it Friday.
