Difference between 1987 2WD frame and 4WD
 

Does anyone know what ill need to convert an 87 2WD to 4WD in terms of the frame?

like I said in your last post.. its not worth it unless you want to go custom solid axle build.. the time and effort to install a Dakota iFS on a 2wd isn't worth it since dang near everything from the center of the frame to t he front is different let alone the weak front differential

now to build a Solid axle conversion isn't as bad but still requires a lot of fabrication.. im gonna be doing this eventually to a 91 2wd extended cab but I bought a Jeep Tj and its taking all my money lol

you can do what Crazy did and swapped his body from his 2wd to a 4wd frame if you can find one ..


in any account its not gonna be simple but easiest way would be a body swap to a 4wd rolling chassis.... any other direction will require a lot of fabrication and building

2wd and 4wd frames are way to different to try to take parts off one or another. Different suspension types front and rear. I got a complete 4wd frame for my motor and body style and swapped my body, bed, motor on to the 4wd frame.

If your truly dead set on a 4wd swap then it will not be easy.

The only easy way is to sell the truck and buy a 4wd.

So here are you options for a 4wd conversion.

1. Sell your 2wd, buy a 4wd. EASY!

2. Do a body/frame swap just like I did. Easy to do, lots of time/space/parts needed. Mostly bolt on, no welding necessary. Click HERE

3. Do a SAS Solid/Straight Axle Swap, 100% custom tons of cutting and welding necessary. Hard to do, tons of time, and way more $$ than you think. I did this too, Click HERE

Go for a solid axel. Easier to lift more, and will give a better ride after being lifted
