1991 3.9 power at coil and squirting fuel but no spark

My 1988 doesn't; the current limiting is done by the ECU.
So ... you have voltage at the 12V feed, but no pulses at the ECM side of the coil?
I'd be checking the wiring to the ECM; could just be a bad connection.
Also, to get decent wiring diagrams, have you picked up a copy of the factory service manual? For a 1991, there's always used (sometimes VERY well used!) on Ebay, or new from Bishko; a common reseller with discounts from Bishko is RockAuto.

I've checked most every wire, at least the ones to the coil (from asd to coil and from coil to pcm) and they're good, however I do suspect I may have damaged the connector in the pcm plug in the process of checking so I may pull one from a junkyard and splice it on. Do you think I even have the right coil? The others that I have (and MSD blaster 2 and some cheapo black one) don't say anything about requiring an external resistor. Do I risk anything by trying this new coil if it isn't the right one?

I'd have to put a connector in my hand first to say specifically ... but there's a keeper that can be removed; the wire pushed out the front; crimp it SLIGHTLY with a small pair of pliers; then reassemble.
That would be a LOT easier than splicing that 60 pin connector, even if not all 60 pins are in use.

Also, that's to add; you'll want or need an extractor.
I've got a big set of extractors I bought from one of the Chinese companies; however, usually you can use something like this from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/CableWholes...dp/B0010PKPEA/
