Quick Question About Cylinder Heads

If i replace the head on only one side of my '91 motor, will that brand new head over-tax the old one and wear it out sooner? Thanks

No sir...but why are you replacing that head?

My mechanic buddy says he's confidant about changing out the head but not so confidant in replacing a valve...or two. I think we can get a whole new head for under 300 and my labors free.

If he's a mechanic I'm sure he could replace a valve but I wonder if you'll find cracking near the valve seats in which case it's a pretty good idea to replace the whole head haha.

Yah; I'm waiting the verdict from the build shop (which won't be until I get the truck to the MECHANIC'S shop, he pulls the motor, and it gets over TO the build shop ... ) on if my motor's heads are good enough or not.

Bare are about $200, built about $250 (but without the rocker arms or shafts, alas!)

Ha; yep, it is an antique truck after all :)

Heh. If I'd been banged about in my head as often as these trucks have been, my head would probably be cracked also! :icon_nut:

We don't even want to speak of that. If my rocker arms turn up bad, i'd have to just duct tape em and move on :)

But to recap - there are heads available from Ebay, RockAuto, and even Amazon Prime for the LA and the Magnum motors, V6 or V8

Too bad the 1991 isn't a Magnum; if it was, and a Magnum V8, you could spend a bit more and score a NICE improvement by swapping to Engine Quest heads.
