Default 93 Dakota 3.9 engine swap

hey everyone

my beloved 93 decided to overheat on the way to work and blew the headgaskets

so I found a 94 3.9 to swap into mine. My questions are....

1. Is 93 and 94 compatible with out doing any crazy modification? I just wanna make sure. I think I read before they are.

2. What is the chance when it overheated it only blew the headgaskets and didn’t damage anything else?

94 used larger injectors and smaller exhaust manifolds.

Keep the old injectors and you'll be in great shape.

I'd also keep your old exhaust manifolds.

(The new ones MAY fit within the adaption range of the ECU; your choice.)

Thank you! I literally had my Dakota sold then the guy backed out. I’m taking it as a sign to swap motors lol

IF you're going to swap - Go Big! 5.2 or 5.9, drops right in, ECU is available, takes two more wires to the ECU and a total of four more connections (one side of both the extra injectors ties to the common of the current six!), and ... Boom!

(Jump too hard with a 5.9, and the transmission goes BOOM!, but eh ... )

I’m about to buy a 91 3.9 also. Use it for parts as well. Has a bunch of new stuff on it. Would the 91 3.9 fit also? It looks a lot different than my 3.9

91 is going to be the LA style block, 93 is going to be the magnum style block. Not sure if you can mix and match parts to make it work.

That’s what I was afraid of. But I traded an old vexilar fish locator for this so that’s fine. I’ll drive it till the frame snaps in half I guess. I am going to pick up a 94 3.9 this week anyways. Just needed something to get to work for the next month basically. This 91 has a bunch of new parts on it so I’ll take them off and put on the 93 eventually.

thank you guys for replying. This website is filled with amazing people.
