Default Head Gasket bad?

I picked up a 1996 4X4 5.2L SLT Dakota about a month ago for $400. Only issues where fuel line leak disrupted fuel pressure so starting up was sketchy, steering is loose (fairly certain pitman arm is worn) and o2 sensor wasn’t working after being replaced. Owner said he had the connector siting exposed for a month and think it corroded. Pretty good deal for $400 in my opinion.

Well he only drove it during winter so he didn’t realize the radiator had a decent leak. Long story short, fixed the fuel line now I believe I blew head gasket. Symptoms are below.

- white smoke from exhaust pipes
- dripping oil from middle of engine by valve covers
- runs VERY rough
- overhears after idling for 5 minutes or less, overflow starts dumping coolant

I have little to none mechanical experience, I feel like its a head gasket issue. But it would be dumb to not get some other opinions before I only replace the head gasket. Really don’t want to junk the truck, I like it a lot. But I can’t afford to spend more then 200-450 on it!

It does sound like a head gasket has blown.

Chang your thermostat. The intake oil leak is a separate issue and common with 1st gen. I have a 1998 I bought new which has 168K miles now. About every 4 yrs or so I add Barr's Head gasket Fix and it also with stop the intake leaks. Works like a charm and lasts awhile.
