Default Dies At Trafic Lights

Evening all,

My truck has taken to dieing at traffic lights unless the brake is pushed all the way down and even then sometimes. I have noticed that the idle speed on the tach has dropped about a 1/2 to 1/2 of where it used to be.

Thoughts on where to look and an easy fix? It was doing this before I changed out the plugs, wires and cap and rotor. Seemed to have gotten worse the last couple of months. I am putting less than 200 miles on it a month, so it is sitting a lot. Water in the tank? Change the fuel filer if it has one? A fuel treatment? It has never done it in park, only in drive with foot on the brake. If it had a carburator I would just try adjusting that to a richer mix, I know nothing about fuel injection systems.

Clean the throttle body, pay special attention to the IAC well. It likes to crud up, and cause these issues. Leave the battery disconnected while you deal with the TB. When it's all back together, turn the key to "On", (not start) count to ten, then start it up. (don't touch anything) Let it idle for a bit, and the PCM *should* relearn idle.

I guess I need to pull the manuals out, are we talking cleaning the outside or disassembling?

Need to clean the inside. All you really need to remove is the IAC itself, and spray all the junk out of it. (which is best done OFF the motor, so the motor isn't ingesting all that schlock. ) You can clean the outside too.

Like I said I will pull the manuals out, they are actually in the back seat under the tools. When you say spray are we talking some kind of cleaner, the air house off my dad's compressor or a combo of something?

Thank you for the help?

Should I clean the mass air flow sensor? Do I even have one? I have been watching Youtube videos to get an idea of what I am going to be doing.

Your truck is speed-density. No MAF, you have a MAP instead. (manifold absolute pressure) No cleaning required. Just make sure the little rubber elbow that feeds it vacuum isn't cracked.
