1991 to 1996 swap.

I own a 1991 v6 Dakota. I recently bought a 318 5.2 out of a 1996 ram 1500 for dirt cheap. The new motor came with transmission all under the hood wiring harnesses, computer and starter. I took out my v6 and installed the new motor and transmission with no problems. I have wires from the computer and motor going to eleven different connectors that I do not know what they do or go. Am I wasting my time trying to get that motor to work or should I find year specific. It’s not a daily driver so more of a toy. What else am I going to have to change or convert. Fuel rails? Change to carbed? Scrap project and start over? I’ve got pics but they won’t upload on here.

You are going from an OBDI system, to an OBDII system.... Gonna need wiring diagrams for both flavors, and figger out where the wires go. It is certainly doable, but, it's gonna be tedious. :D

What I'd do is grab the wiring harnesses out of a 1996 Dakota V8, engine bay, frame, AND cab; and convert your wiring to that.

Otherwise, yep, Grab both wiring diagrams and work from there.

Edit: HeyYou forgot to mention, even the TRANSMISSION wiring is different since the 1996 is a RE, the 1991 is a RH.
