95 Dakota trans slipping jut changed fluid 6 months ago does not looker smell burnt
 

Trans started slippin when it does it sounds like a jet engine higher rpms but less power it still goes in gear forward and reverse it just dont move fast when in gear not sure what problem is maybe torque converter or a silonid has gone bad any body have any ideas????? Its a 42RE trans on a 3.9 engine 95 Dakota sport with extended cab

That should be a 42RH trans, RE didn't come about until 96. If its slipping, then you have issues, and probably should start saving your pennies for a rebuild.

It has plugs and sensors in it and one of them is a 8 pin plug

Wow. Is it a late production 95??

You can try doing a fluid/filter change, and swapping out the governor pressure sensor and solenoid....... but, if it still slips, it's rebuild time.

Could also just disable the electronics, (unplug the 8 pin connector from the trans) and see if it will move. Keep in mind, it won't have ANY automatic function at all, you will have to up/down shift as appropriate. If it goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, the swapping the electronics *should* solve the issue. (wouldn't hurt to adjust the bands while you are in there as well. :) )

Check the VIN. I'll bet it's a 1996 model year (but made late in 1995).

I had a 96' dakota once with heavy slip issues at the 1-2 shift. I had a code for the governor, proceeded to swap that out and it still slipped. I wanted to change out the tcc so while doing it i unbolted something ididnt know about and was cursing all over the place because what came out of it was a broken spring. Did some research and found that its a common problem, its the spring for the Accumulator Piston, which i suppose regulates pressure in the tranny. Got that from amazon for like 20$ and it worked like brand new, until i totaled it :(. I know it says 3-4 and i was skeptical at first but idk it fixed my issue so that just might be your problem.
