Output speed sensor location

Hello everyone thanks for reading, I have a 96 Dakota 3.9l Sport standard cab 2 wheel drive, I am having some issues with it idling in gear as well as the tranny not shifting correctly. I have replaced all the tune-up parts as well as the B1 S1 O2 sensor. Now I'm getting the code PO720 Speed output sensor circuit malfunction, I need to know if the sensor is on the tail of the trans or on the pumpkin of the rear end. As soon as I put it in gear it wants to die, putting through parking lots it feels like it's shifting back and forth between 1st and 2nd as well as going down the road at any speed it doesn't have any power unless it stays in passing gear. Any ideas or thoughts oh yeah my O/D switch does not work, Overdrive works I just can't turn it off or on ( been that way since I got the truck a year and a half ago. Thank you in advance.

In the sticky section click the FAQ page. It's a good idea to read all of the top half at some point. Anyway scroll down about halfway there is a 96 Factory service manual and a transmission service manual.

Output Speed sensor is on the trans, drivers side, kinda halfway back. Easy to change, and relatively cheap. Very little fluid will come out when you pull it.

Go to the top of this page. Look for the link "1st Gen Dakota Tech". The first section is the sticky threads.
