Default body lift- steering rod extension?

The P/O installed a body lift on the 93' I have. The male part of the steering rod is only sticking into the female part about 3/4", which allows alot of side to side play. I quit driving it on the road once I found this. Is there an extension sold to fix this? DIY fix?

No quick fix. You can cut and add an extention piece. Or what I have done is take it off and use a press to smash it down a bit to eliminate the play, but not to much where it won't slide.

Crazy here is what I am thinking,,,your opinion?

Take to bottom section/female section cut it- find a piece of pipe that will slide over it with a tight fit. Slip both ends into pipe and weld. I still need to take measurements, but I am thinking it only needs to be about an
1-1/4" longer. I have access to presses and dies to where I can press the pipe to create a tight fit before welding if needed.

That sounds okay. What ever you feel like. Just remember it needs to be safe and secure. So get strong tube and go to a professional welder.
