Default Keyless Entry

I'm planning on doing one on my truck this weekend, anybody want me to take pictures and do a quick write up?

Here is the keyless unit I chose, it’s a Bulldog KE1702 chosen for the fact that it was cheap and had built in relays for the reverse polarity door locks.

This unit also includes a relay for a starter immobilizer, I’m not using that so with a few wiring changes later it’ll turn into the relay for the parking light confirmation.

Start out by removing the trim pieces, sill, kick plate, left and center bolsters (center not pictured) and the instrument panel piece.

Deviating from the keyless install momentarily, I remembered the key in ignition buzzer wasn’t working and pulled the pin to fix it. The black side of the connector was broken off so with a quick splice it’s functioning again.

Tracing the pink and orange wires into the dash there is a connector, unplug it for easier access to the wires. For the reverse polarity system the wire need to be cut and reattached to the module instead of just spliced. An automatic wire stripper is very helpful to have in the tight spaces. All connections I’ve made are using butt connector and sealed with liquid electrical tape (not done until all the connections are made).

I originally removed the fuse block and pulled constant 12v power from pink/purple tracer wire from the buzzer, however I went back and changed it and now have a fused connection straight to the battery feeding the module and parking light relay.

Next we remove headlight switch, disconnect the wiring and cut and splice the black/yellow tracer wire for the parking lamp circuit. In hindsight I should have traced the wire farther down in the dash as it was a really tight fit to get it spliced together.

To change the relay for the starter interrupt to a relay for the parking lamps, a diode needs to be removed and (if wanted for easier install and troubleshooting) a few wire colors changed.

Find a nice home for the module, not hard since there is plenty of room and reinstall all of the trim pieces and you’re ready to go.

I’ve left out the ground connection and keyless wire colors for a reason, the ground was spliced into some existing non factory wiring so I didn’t bother looking for a factory ground connection and the keyless wire colors will change depending on what module is used and are straightforward from the installation manual. Any questions feel free to ask.
