Default 96 42re problem..HELP

Hello all

I have a 96 Dakota 4x4 v6 with a 42re trans...the problem...seems like it searches for 2nd gear after it warms up, all other gears are fine. When its cold, it shifts fine, just does this after warm up. I checked the fluid level in neutral..its fine. There are no check engine lights. Adjusted the TV cable..no change. Yhe fluid is not burnt..just did a fluid change about 2 months ago..about 4,000 miles. I was wondering if the pressure sensor or selonoid would cause this. If I use half to 3/4 throttle from a stop, it shifts fine also. It seems to be worse the slower you accelerate or when your moving slow it jerks in and out of second gear untill i pick up speed and finaly moves into 2nd. I downshifts fine and starts in first every time. I need some input on what would cause this. It is not a "slip"..its in and out of 2nd gear from 1st if that makes sence. Please let me know what you think...Thanx

It may be a valve body issue. We have the 96 service manual in the FAQ it has dianosing charts.

Go to the FAQ page just a few posts above this one. Find the link for the service manual and go to free user/slow download and download it.
