Code 44: An open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit or a problem in the PCM's battery temperature circuit.

The engine temp gauge is reading a few hairs above cold, but appears to be working. It did have a code for an engine temp sensor but it cleared, but the code 44 stayed. I have had NO luck findig the battery temp sensor. It is not in the bumper channel or under the battery tray, which is where i was told to look. Also have not been able to find it in an auto parts store. Is it a dealer only part or do i have to go to the junkyard for it? My radio and headlights flicker on and off from time to time and i really would like to get this problem solved

Post in the first gen dakota section. Those folks know a lot more about them than I do.

These trucks have two sensors. One for the gauge and one for the pcm. The one for the pcm is either bad or disconnected.

And welcome to df
