Starts out in second gear when in Drive

Default Starts out in second gear when in Drive

Im bout to be buying a 94 dodge dakota with a V6 engine in good condition has between 160,000 - 180,000 miles on it runs and drives the only problem is it starts you out in second gear when in drive but shifts into 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear perfectly fine i was told it had a bad tranny sensor is what the guy told me after he took it to a shop but when i ask around to fellas i know they say i would need to replace the whole tranny i need a correct answer somebody help me out please.

Uuuhhh ...

There's something wrong. For 1994, the automatic is a 3 speed with overdrive; or gears 1,2,3, and 4.

You list 4 gears.

Sounds like it's working to me.

What Ralph said...94s are 4 speed only. There is no 5th gear. Regardless you wouldn't have to replace the tranny...rebuild the valve body if there is a shift problem only and no grinding of gears...you can drop the valve body and a shift kit to rebuild it is about $80. Another $20 if a servo has gone bad.
