Default 2nd Gen Sway Bar/Crossmember fitting 1st Gen

Will a 2nd gen sway bar/crossmember out of a Dakota or Durango fit on a first gen Dak?

Is this a 2 or 4wd truck? Honestly, I have wondered about the same thing. FWIW another member said the torsion bars off of a durango fit this 96 dakota. So the swaybars may work.

The Durango is 4wd and the Dakota is 2wd.

If you're saying the "donor" Durango is a 4WD, and you're asking will it work in a 2WD Dakota, then I'm afraid the answer is that it won't fit. The front suspension in a 4WD Durango (or Dakota) is completely different than the 2WD suspension in those vehicles. 4WD's use torsion bars instead of coil springs and a steering box instead of rack and pinion steering,. The lower control arms, which the swaybar bolts to, are very different, and the steering linkage, which the swaybar needs to clear, is not the same.

In addition, a torsion bar anti-sway bar will tend to be smaller than a coil spring ASB since the torsion bars have some anti-sway tendencies all to themselves by their design.
