5-spd whine

I have an NV3500HD behind my 5.2L. Shifts great, not too clunky. But, it whines under the following conditions:

-At idle, in neutral with the clutch pedal not being stomped on

-In 1st through 3rd gears

I've had the rig for 6K miles and the trans has never given me any mechanical issues, just the noise.

The pitch of the sound gets higher as revs increase, from a lower growl to a high whine.

Could this be a T/O bearing? Input shaft bearing? Any help would be appreciated, thanks all.

Is the noise related to vehicle speed? Or engine speed? (I.E. does it change tone when you shift?)

T/O bearing should really only be noisy when you actually step on the clutch, if it's bad.

It's related to engine speed, and it changes tone when I shift

Might be in trans input bearing then. Have you looked at fluid level in the trans?

Yeah, I changed the fluid/filter right after I got it. Level looked good and fluid wasn't gross

How many miles are on it?

Hhhhmmm....... Might be a bearing going.... might be just typical gear noise. I would be tempted to take it to a trans shop that you TRUST...... (I know, rather hard to find....) and see what they have to say.

Is this a misprint? No filter on a NV3500 I assume it is. Also, what fluid did you use?
It should be something like this. http://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/produc...NhbGU9ZW5fdXM=

If you have the correct fluid and its full, its more then likely the front input bearing.
