as far as how long a 42 will last behind a V8..... they CAN last if you don't drive like a bat out of He11.... the 42 and 44 are basically the same trans, the 44 just has more clutch discs within the clutch packs inside the trans as compared to the 42.

As for your last statement not sure where you went with that...42/44s are similar. But we're talking 46. 46 has more different internal parts than the number of discs. The planetaries are different. I watched my builder open up an 518 next to my 500 as that's how we built out my A500 to take 500hp. It's more than just discs.
