2001 R/T Tranny
Hi all. I'm new here so, greetings. This is my first post, so please be gentle.. :-) My Old man recently gave me his '01 Durango R/T. He hasn't used it in like 6 months because of tranny probs. The truck will not move or shift at all or will move extremely slow and at very high rpm's when the shift lever is in plain ol' drive. Like if she was starting out in 4th or 3rd. If you shift her manually to 1st, then second...ect...it will work most of the time. My Dad took it to the dealer and, $1500 dollars later, it's still doing the same thing. They replaced all the sensors and solenoids, both inside the tranny and on the diff. They also changed the oil and filter. They told him it has a bad computer. My question is: Do these R/T's have two computers? Maybe one for the engine and one for the tranny? If so, which one do I change? I looked and looked all over the forums but I really didn't find a problem like mine. I scanned the truck and it gave me a P0753 and a P0443. The 443 it sez is an Evap problem. Something to deal with after the tranny is fixed. [&o] The 753 sez:P0753 (M) Transmission 3-4 Shift Soleniod/Transmission Relay Circuits An open or shorted circuit detected in the overdrive solenoid control circuit or trans relay circuit in JTEC RE transmissions . Was MIL code 45. and or:P0753 (M) Transmission 3-4 Shift Soleniod/Transmission Relay Circuits An open or shorted condition detected in the transmission 2-4 shift solenoid circuit (4-speed auto. Trans. Only).
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What is the mileage? And when and what type of previous work was done on the trans? Were the bands adjusted recently? Does disengaging overdrive have any effect on the shifting? 443 is an emissions issue. 753 is a trans. The dealer replaced the sensors but did they replace the relay?

Congrats on the gift. Many of us would love to have gotten our D via that mode.
One question that pops up right away is why not take it right back to the folks who took the $1500 and did not fix it?? Surely there is some kind of warranty or guarantee on the work. That much money is more than 2/3rd of the way to a good rebuilt tranny. Sounds like theyjust threw parts at it and ran up a big bill.

When I got my 02 r/t I had major trans problems, so I took it to a local place(not going to mention where due to poor service) but yeah they had it for a month and had to rebuilt the trans, then they wanted so much money which I had it covered under warranty. After that I don't really have any problems with my trans, I have put over 3,000 on it. I have been told some of the r/t's have tranny problems, its not fun to deal with.

The tranny was opened and checked. All the solenoids tested good. After extensive troubleshooting, they tested the ECU and thats the problem. The ECU is not sending the signal to the trans relay, so it's working in Limp in Mode. Now I have to find an ECU for this.....[:@] In having a really hard time finding it because, I live in P.R. There are only 4 registered R/T's in the whole island...lol Any ideas where I could find one? Thx in advance.

It doesn't matter that your truck is a "R/T". You can get a mopar performance PCM for your truck that will add more HP/TQ then your stock one or you can get one off of ebay and have it re-flashed for your truck. The 5.2 & 5.9 PCM are the same thing, they just have different programming. Go buy a junkyard computer and have a company re-flash it to the specs. of your truck!
