Default 02 Durango reving up and down 200-300 RPM

My durango has been reving up and down at all speeds recently. It is most noticiable when the cruise is set at about 65 but also happens at idle. At first i thought i might be some bad gas but its been about 3 tanks now and it continues to be a problem. I have a short commute and it isnt noticable when cold but on the longer trips when it warms up, it is very noticable.

It has always reved very high when it sits in the garage for a 3-4 days and starts up. It usuallyt does that for a few blocks and then goes away when i reach over 25 mph.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

High idle after sitting for a while is normal... As for the flucuation, try replacing the TPS. *(Throttle position sensor)

Mace:

As Neo says,

Head to your local parts place and pick up a Wells TPS333 for ~$40.

Two torx screws secure it to the side of the throttle body, and on my 01 I did not need to remove the air hat to replace it.

This item should sure your rpm fluctuation on all accounts. It did for me!!!

Keep your receipt. The aftermarkets seem to go bad quickly. If you're one of the unfortunate ones, you might get lucky to get it under some warranty and get a new one no charge.
