Default electric fan won't cut off

Wife calls and says the electric fan won't cut off, her uncle pulls the relay and the fan stops, relay is bad. So, will it hurt if they put it back in and let the elec. fan run until she gets home (2hr drive) ????? Thanks!

umm.. no it wont.. thing is.. if the vehicle thinks its over heating .. alot of them will run the fan till it cools.. might just need a temp sensor and be done with it.. usually if a relay kicks.. the fan wont come on at all

I replaced the relay and all is well. When she got home that relay was too hot to touch!!! Looks like it started to melt the fuse box plastic around the relay connection. So far, that makes 2 relays I've had to change on a 40K mile Durango, guess the OEM relays lack integrity.

Make to check the wiring harness to the fan also, if the connections on the fan is bad or dirty, it can put uneccessary load on the relay also.
