DURANGO WON'T START?? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Okay, I posted a month or so ago regarding my 2001 Dodge Durango. I was having trouble starting it first thing in the morning. So, we changed the TPS, bought a new battery, didn't fix the problem. Finally took it to a mechanic, who said the PCM was bad. Replaced the PCM, seemed to have fixed the problem. The truck would crank fine every time.......until last night. Now, won't even attempt to turn over. Fuel gauge is not registering any gas. Actually, the gauge is BELOW "E", it doesn't even move when the key is turned, even though there was 1/4 of a tank when the Durango was parked. [:@]WHAT IN THE WORLD? I am honestly so fed up with this truck.....we've only had it 60 days and have already put more than $675.00 into it!
Check engine light is on, but giving codes of P0031and P0132, which have something to do with the oxygen sensor according to my mechanic. That wouldn't explain why we're not getting any fuel, right? The fuel pump kicks on when key is turned to accessory, so I don't think the pump is the problem. What could this be??? I am seriously at a loss as to what is wrong with this vehicle. I wish there were some sort of Lemon Law in TN for used vehicles, because it sure seems I've bought one.

I need to correct my earlier post. We don't hear the fuel pump kick on, but it's like the pump is not getting any electricity. Mechanic suggested checking the relay switch??? So frustrating.

do this. next time you go to fire it up, turn everything off and turn the key on, listen for the pump. should turn on for approx 2 sec. if it does, cycle the key 2 more times and verify the pump kicks on each time, then try to fire it up. if it starts right up, your check valve is probablybad and the fuel is draining back into the tank, this valve is part of the fuel pump assembly. if you dont hear the pump, open up the manual and look on the schematic for the fuel pump relay and jumper power over to the pump, if it kicks on with power applied, pump is most likely ok. if not, check the wiring back to the pump, if that is ok, then your pump may have a problem. if all that checks out, go the other direction from the relay back to the pcm. make sure the pcm is providing the signal to the relay to turn the pump on.
hope this helps.
Steve05,
We are not getting any pressure. Could this problem be the fuel pump?
Also, last night, tried to check the codes, and it wouldn't give me anything. But then the odometer would blink a few times and "NO BUS" would come up. What is that?
As I mentioned earlier, we just had a new PCM installed about 2 weeks ago. Could it have went out so soon? Seems that I've also read something about a crank sensor.........would a bad crank sensor cause this problem?
When the new PCM was put in, the mechanic said that there could likely be more problems that would arise, because the bad computer wasn't able to read any codes.
What have I gotten myself into? It seems like the problems are never-ending. I LOVE this car, and I don't want anything else.......I just want this one to run!!!!

Mason,
Had NO BUS show up on my odometer too with my 2000 D. There was no pressure from fuel pump, no spark from plugs, and couldn't read codes because supposedly my PCM was bad. My mechanic went through everything on my truck. Put in new fuel pump, 2 or 3 new sensors and even a new PCM, and nothing. He finally figured it out it was the cranskaft relay in the fuse bux under the hood. All these problems from a $5 relay! NO BUS on your odometer is supposed to read out as NO FUSE (NO RELAY - SAME THING) but it doesn't display right, I found this out after talking to a guy I know from Dodge. Check all your relays in your fuse box under the hood I'd be willing to bet that does it..
Hope it works - Good Luck!!

Big Red,
What exactly am I looking for? We looked at the fuses (relays) under the hoodlast night, and could not find anything that said "crankshaft". Should I be looking for something else?
Thanks.

the NO Bus message is usually the pcm gone bad... or there is a bad connection somewhere. not shure what your looking for on the crankshaft comment... the crankshaft sensor however is located behind the passenger side head on the back of the block where it mounts to the transmission. this being bad will not cause your no bus problem but will definately prevent it from starting.
do a search in the 2nd gen ram forum for "no bus" and you should find lots of info on it. the 2nd gen guys have just about seen it all.

When you bought this D, 60 days ago, is it from a private owner or a used car lot? If from a dealer, is there some kinda of warranty grace period? dunno nothing about TN laws there.
I really don't know which relay it was or what it was labeled. My mechanic told me he was pulling relays and after he tried the crankshaft relay it started up. I actually found the bad relay he pulled out, I was doing my ball joints and it was sitting on top of my upper control arm, so he must of dropped it after he pulled it out. I'll look in my Chilton's book and see if it labels which relay it is and I'll post as soon as I find out.
- And steve05 even after my mechanic replaced my pcm it was still flashing "no bus". So the pcm was good but the fact that therelayhad gonebad was causing an interruption in the pcm, the relay was basically creating an open in the system which wasn't allowing for ignition.
