P0700 and 0731 code w/ no od???? help????

Hi all,
I have a 2000 4x4 Durango 4.7
zone gave me a code of p0731
"incorrect gear 1 ratio" ---- what the heck is this?
also I have noticed now that it will not go into OD so Im pushing 3.4 RPMS at 70mph (BYE GAS)
at idle it will ramp up and down at times, but not consitant.
one last thing
when backing up it make a grinding noise in the rear ( I have my ideals as to what this is) but just want to see what you all think
with all of this Im more worried about the code and the OD issue, I have read about the OD sensor and the TPS and the gov sen
please ANY info from you will greatly help me to love my D again...:icon_bike:

Welcome to the site!

Whens the last time you read the manual and checked your fluid or seviced these items?

bandmaria 07-22-2009 05:58 PM

Not sure when it was changed, but that's what I'm doing today, also going ahead and changing the TPS while I'm at it, I have the 4.7 not 5.9 BTW

Changed the fluid and filters, cil went off for 2 min then came back on, still no overdrive, and I have aq p0700 code only now? Suggestions?

Ok just took her to a shop that I can trust, they will drive and deep scan her, and force OD to see what's up with her.

Well got the bad news! No 1st gear and no OD, internal damage, so 1300.00 for used replacement w/ 6 month warranty! Sucks but we have to fix her

hydrashocker 07-24-2009 12:45 AM

I was afraid of that!

Make sure they flush all the lines, transmission cooler if equipped, and radiator cooler. 1 metal fragment and thats all it takes. Now only use ATF+4 fluid and take care of it and it will take care of you.

Think I may go with a rebuilt Jasper trany at 2200 out the door, has a 3 year/100K so we also are buying a better deal with piece of mind

hydrashocker 07-25-2009 01:37 PM

Warranties are a great piece of mind but remember you still have to pay for install. I don't have anything against Jasper Transmissions.

Install a Transgo Shift Kit and order it also with a NEW over sized torque converter and don't do rebuilt TQ convertors. Also a new radiator........ IMHO

the 2200. is out the door/ includes install and fluids, and the trans itself. The shift kit and other parts are un-affordable as we are having to scrape the pennies just to get this
