Default Shift kit a DIY?

I've been thinking about getting a transgo shift kit. Is it something a reasonably mechanicaly inclined guy could do? I have done quite a bit of wrenching on engines over the years, rebuilt carbs, replaced a few clutches, but I've never worked on an auto tranny before. Are there any special tools required?

TIA

Colin

I would also like to use one

I think you have to remove the trans if you want to install the new snap ring

Most of it goes into the valve body. But personally, I would take it in.

I would also prefer to put the ring in. Do you have any links of videos and/or exploded diagrams for our transmission?
