Durango won't stay running
Had to jump start 2003 durango, but wouldn't stay running unless foot was on gas pedal. Any advice?

1) replace the battery, these trucks are infamous for doing this when the batteries go bad
2) please place future posts in the 1st generation section, illl move this one for you |
Yep if you had to jump start it and the battery is any older than 4 years go ahead and replace it.
Duralast Gold is a great battery for this rig and for the money is simply the best you can get. |
Common in most Dodge trucks. Even with a couple of bad battery cells they will crank and start, but won't idle. The engine computer won't initialize properly if the battery voltage is too low. Happened on my b-i-l's Ram 1500 a few years back, when we were fishing in Northern Maine. Luckily a call to the nearest dealer (many miles away) helped the diagnosis. When it happened on my Durango a couple of years later I knew exactly what it was.

If you had to jump start then I would think that your battery was low. If this happens the PCM won't work until the battery is above 12 volts so it stumbles and wants to die. THIS IS NORMAL! Change or charge the battery. |
