I had it flash a couple times when stomping on the gas really fast, but other than that Its never stayed on. This was on my 2000.

does it stay on?

usually when it blinks on it is the coolant temp getting high(and then coming back down), or the battery voltage getting low(or high) and then coming back in range. the last thing would be the oil pressure disappearing.

It's not any of those i have had the luck of being able to be looking at the gauges everytime it's happened and everything is where it should be.

Have you run the Gauge Cluster diagnostics? Maybe it will be able to tell you which gauge is messing up

with the key in the LOCK position, hold the trip reset button down, while holding it down turn the key to the ON position

it should run the gauges through different locations and if there is a problem display any codes in the odometer window, watch carefully

If it doesn't start the diagnostics immediately, hold it down with the truck in the on position until words appear in the odometer, then let go an let it run :-)
