Default Gear Change

Was pondering a gear change for a while. Planning on removing my Auburn 4.56`s and stepping into a 3.42 ratio ...Since i`m on-road only ,,and ''The Mistress'' is built for hwy performance-touring .I have no need any more for the ''from stop lite to stop lite '' gearing ,,Its FUN but ,,,,lower rev`s and higher speeds more my liking . So i ordered a set of their HP series gearset in the 3.42 ratio .., should be here by UPS thursday .........

Why did you go with 3.42's?

Whats your optimal rpm your shooting for?

I just did you calculations and came up with 1663 RPM at 65 MPH. I used the following info:

R&P 3.42
Tire Height 31
Speed 65
trans at 4th gear (46RE) 0.69

Personally, I think your going to be lugging your motor at that RPM. (just came from that with the V10). Again this is my personal opinion.

I would have gone to a 3.55 and 31 tire "personally" with your build.

Well gears are in ,,and my 285/50/20`s are 31.22'' so i`m in right height there, as for lugging it ,,,not in the least ....checked rpm at 60 mph is was around 1675-1700 stomped the Loud pedal to see if what yu are saying about lugging motor,,,ummmm not in the least hit WOT and bounced needle off rev limiter set at 6000 so i`m happy where she sits at 60 and so on ,,upper end in mph is ummmmmmm un-nerving,, past 125 and still had more in pedal but ran out road lol We`ll have to wait and see how these gears are .......

What did you use to get rid of the speed governor. I know on mine I guess it's built into the computer but it kicks in around 118 mph and I just haven't gone in far enough into my SuperChips programmer to figure out if I can do it from there.

I have a B &G perf.computer with a custom tune i downloaded into my SCT from them . My shift points are raised to 5800-6000, rev limiter is around 6500 ( never have gone there .yet ), and speed limiter raised to 140 mph....

Very nice. Yeah I can change the shift points and rev limited but haven't changed the speed limiter. Going off topic again but how do you like your B&G custom tune. The more I put into my Durango, the more I'm wanting to do a more permanent tune.
