4.7 installing the crankshaft pulley/damper
I know you are supposed to have a special tool to do this, is there any way to get around it? I can get it on with about 1" left to go, but don't want to try pressing it on with the stock bolt because I'm afraid of stripping the threads. Any tips or am I stuck getting the tool?

I do know that you can rent the tool from some auto parts stores rather than having to buy it, so if it turns out that you do need it, you won't have to buy another tool that you might never need again.

Well it looks like you can build your own very easy. A bearing shop should be able to get you what you need to build it.

Well, I was able to get it on without the tool. . .just took time and a little TLC. I was able to slide it back far enough by hand (eventually) to get about an inch of threads in on the bolt, and then it tightened right down.

But - Autozone in my area will loan a lot of tools out with just a deposit. Lot of others will do the same, don't hurt to call around if you need another one sometime. |
Yeah, the autozones around here will as well, but no one had anything for the 4.7. . .at all.

The bolt is 14mm with a 1.50 thread pitch.
