P0740, P1899, OD off, Hi Temp Trans Durango

98 Durango 5.9. I replaced my auto transmission with a used one about a month ago. Ran perfect until last night. Wouldn't go into gear until a lot of shifting. Engaged 4 wheel drive and back, everything tried and it started working again. OD went off and shortly trans hot light came on. Fortunately I was close to home. Started again today. Codes p0740 and p1899. How are these related? How do I check the TCC/PTV solenoid or the park neutral switch?Could It be the wiring?

Check your trans cooler lines going into you radiator. They might be plugged or never reconnected.

P0740 is the TCC lock up circuit and P1899 is the P/N switch stuck. That means a problem with safety neutral switch. When replace the transmission, did you flush the cooler and check for flow? You'll need a scanner to perform a torque converter stall test. That will let you know if it will pass or fail.

Thanks for getting back so soon... After researching the purpose of a "TCC" I'm concluding that this failure could ultimately cause the overheating, and the P/N switch may be not related to my problems at all, just coincidence. The beast ran fine today, all day. Tonight it left me on the side of the road. Driving along, it seemed to have just gone out of gear.
Several successive attempts to coax it back home resulted in 75 yrds, 50 yrds, 20, and a tow from a buddy who says I need a new computer... Help. What kinda scanner is needed for the converter stall test?

I use the scanner at the shop, which is a DRB3. But I'm sure there other scanners that can do the same job.
