check to make sure the crankshaft position sensor is connected good and possibly replace it. I had the same thing happen after I had my transmission off and it turned out that I broke the sensor somewhere in the process. I replaced it and it fired right up

there's a notch out of the bell housing of the transmission where it goes. It is on the passenger side towards the top of the bell housing. I can't remember for sure if you can get to it from the engine bay or if you have to take out the passenger side fender liner to get to it easily. As for testing it I have no idea how you would go about doing that. The first thing i'd do is trace the wire and make sure the connection is good

another thing you might want to check is that you have spark on all cylinders as well.

the first thing you need to do is to tell us which engine is in the truck because that will make a difference in how we look to address the problem.

if you have a 5.2 or 5.9 that_guy has something to check if you have a 4.7 it will be different.

check the coil, pull the wire going from the coil to the distributor, put a spark plug in it, and hold it to the block, see if you get spark, if not check the connections at the coil for power, if there is power, clean the connections and re-check for spark, if there is still no spark replace the coil.

when mine was doin that i ended up taking it to the shop and it was a result of fouled up spark plugs and they did a full tune up and it worked fine after that. so i guess that wuld be somewhere to start..
