1999 Dodge durango died and won't start!
So here is a bugger, my wife was driving the truck (1999 dodge durango 2wd 5.9liter) she came to a turning lane and the car just died! she could not get it to start again. I recently replaced the transmission with a used one, then all of a sudden I had an issue with the 3-4 shift solenoid (would not have caused this I do not think) and the governor pressure sensor read 3 psi at 0 mph. so:
I installed a new governor pressure sensor and new 3-4 shift solenoid The truck still would not start so I : checked the fuel rail and I am getting fuel replaced the coil replaced the distributor cap replaced the distributor Rotor button replaced the spark plugs replaced the spark plug wires and it has a brand new battery! When I try to start it, it just turns and turns and turns, never even giving a sound as if it wants to start. the only trouble codes I got were for the governor pressure sensor and shift solenoid. There were no other trouble codes!!!! Man this is mind boggling, and advice is greatly appreciated. I do have a bit of experience in working with cars but this one has me stumped. The next thing I can think would be the crankshaft position sensor but would that stop the truck from even trying to start at all? Any other ideas? |
Just a wild guess here but, perhaps the Auto Shutdown relay has took a dump. it seems like you have already replaced most of the easy stuff.

Just to give a heads up I also unplugged the coil, turn the key to on and tested voltage at the coil and I am getting 12v+ at the coil.

Check for spark at the plugs themselves. Did you get wires mixed up maybe? You could be getting spark in the cylinders when there's no fuel.

Gotta check for actual spark at the plugs and fuel in the actual cylinders. If you got spark and fuel and still no starting, then it has to be a timing issue. A bad crank sensor usually results in no plug spark and no injector pulse, even though the fuel pump may be filling the rails! If you have access to a scanner that reads PCM data, you need to see if you are getting an RPM reading while cranking. If you do, the crank sensor is most likely fine. And triple quadruple check your plug wire order.

well, if you got voltage to though the coil i would keep following the system and see where the voltage stops... perhaps you got a bad coil wire or a bad cap and rotor?
I know this may sound stupid but, are you sure all wires are fully in? you be suprized how many time people forget simple things.. |

I just bought the crank position sensor I will let you know how that goes. I am thinking it has to be that, cause I have voltage to the coil going to the distributor but not going out to the spark plugs and all the wires are plugged in good and tight. |
