Got New Tires

So I ended up sticking with the stock rims for now (didn't want to loose sidewall) and got Firestone Destination A/Ts. I also got a lifetime alignment (needed an alignment done anyway) from Firestone too, so I could have it aligned every 6000 miles if I wanted to. So far I'm very happy with these tires, they ride much more smoothly than the old goodyears, they don't make noise on the road, they don't have vibrations in them, and they have good grip on the road, all of which the goodyears didn't. Still need to get the computer reprogrammed so the speedometer will be accurate though.

Once the pollen goes away everything's going to get a good washing.

Love the look and feel of new skins. After this summer I'm going to buy another set of Federal Couregia MTs for my Dak. I was looking at some Hankook Dynapros for the 01 Durango I'm redoing. I've never been a huge Firestone fan but I really like that tread on yours. Might have to price check them around here

Looks better than those dinky tires you've had for years now lol

What size are they?? They look good. They should handle great for the first 10k miles. Do another review after on performance in rain and snow.

Did you sipe them? Well worth doing so being you drive in the snow. About $10 a tire.

So far I'm happy with them. Based on other reviews I've seen I'm expecting them to do well in the rain and snow too. They're at the top of the list for all terrains on tirerack too: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...o&autoModClar= They're 31x10.5R15 and I think they're already supposed to be siped from what I've read. I didn't even think to ask about that when I was there.

Just a tad smaller than my tires (I have a 32.5” tire).

A lot of those reviews are wrote before about 10k miles are hit. My tire rated great in the rain and snow but now that I finally put a little over 10k miles they sure don’t grip nearly as well as they first did.

Sipping in the factory isn’t as effective as having a shop do it with a hot wire. The difference is the tread is a molded sipe from the factory.

I had it down on my one truck in Colorado and it handled amazing. Didn’t do it on my other truck and needed 4wd all the damn time.

I guess I'll see how they do and get it done if needed.

Nice look!

You mentioned getting the "Speedo" adjusted, what size was STOCK on your D?

Also, what does "Sipping" mean that you and PH mention?

that_guy 04-05-2014 10:11 PM

Stock was 31x10.5R15 like the ones I just bought, but it was switched to 235/75R15 a few years ago (before my parents gave it to me), so I need to get it switched back to 31x10.5R15

I always wondered about getting that done. How did your tires wear on the highway after you did that PH? My Dak never has performed well in deep snow/ice but its a beast in mud even with bald tires. I always just attributed it to being too light with too wide of a tire. I've used BF Goodrich All terrains. Buckshot maxxis mudders and Federal Couregia MTs. They all have been 31x10.50 r15s

PublicHair 04-06-2014 06:55 PM

Well worth it. I got about 60k miles out of my last set. And still had about 10k tred left until the wear bars. (Got rid of the truck).

I won't run a tire without it.
