1998 vs. 2003 Brake Rotors?

Hello, I am a previous owner of a BEAT 1998 durango, still loved it, but it was time to move on. Now a year later I am planning on buying a 2003 Durango sxt for a decent price and much better shape, but to get to the point, When I had owned my '98 durango I purchased brand new front pads and rotors that never got to go on my '98. Now that I am looking to buy a 2003 sxt, I was wondering if the rotors will fit the newer '03 since I know there are some differences between the 2 suvs, thanks a lot, and hopefully this saves me a good bit of money.

The 03 has bigger brake rotors than the 98.

I believe the 01s got bigger rotors, and then the 03s got dual piston calipers.

.. which then begs the question... would 03 calipers fit on an 01?
[Per the O'Reilly's web site, both years use the same caliper part number.]
[Per Rock Auto web site, dual are shown for 03, hard to tell from photos if interchangable.]

Not sure if they're directly interchangeable or not. The thing to look at for that would be if the steering knuckles are the same.

if the rotor size changed for 01 it was a negligible change, i know that 01 and 02 had the same rotors/caliper combination on them, then in 03 they stepped up the rotor size signficantly and put dual piston floating calipers on the front axles.

can the 03 front brakes be swapped to an 01 or even a 98? yes, given enough money, however it is pretty impracticle as the knuckles would have to be changed on both sides along with numerous other parts, the knuckles alone cost $300-400 PER SIDE, its not an economical solution for most.

for anyone interested i looked into the project back in 2012, the part numbers should still be right in this document even if the prices have changed

I thought that's why they went to the bigger 16" wheels for 01. Looking into it further the part numbers appear to be the same for 99 and 01, so I stand corrected on that.

I was thinking at this point some stuff could be had pretty cheap through ebay or a local junk yard. an 03 is 12 years old, there should be some around.

Depends on how reasonable the yard is. Surprisingly I've only seen as new as 01 Durangos at the yards here.
