I'm planning to replace upper/lower control arm bushings, ball joints, inner/outer tie rod ends, and shocks. Found a Detroit Axle set of ball joints and TREs, but feedback on the company is very mixed. Could you please provide insight into its worth? Their price is very attractive, but I would obviously not want this to be to the detriment of quality. Going for Moog, Mevotech and the like would cost me 3x as much.

 

You get what you pay for. General consensus on this forum is to use Moog for suspension components.

 

I agree with Keaton. But then, I can't imagine anywhere where going cheap on vehicle repair is a good idea. It's not like you do these repairs all the time. Saving money on toilet paper is fine, on auto repair, not so much.

 

Amazon has very good prices on Moog parts just so you know. I don't ever buy parts local unless I absolutely need them that day. But Amazon is almost always the cheapest on Moog

 

Allow me to rephrase: has anyone here had any experience with Detroit Axle parts? Moog is way beyond my budget. What other brands provide good value? Is Mevotech (their Supreme line) a decent choice?

 

I'd also appreciate some advice on the shocks. Is it better to skip the economy options (Gabriel Guardian, Monroe Monro-Matic Plus) altogether? How do Gabriel ProGuard fare? Which brands and what models are recommended?

 

I prefer Monroe. Never had an issue.

 

If you go monroe, don't get the cheap basic blue ones that are like 20 a set. They're horrible and you won't even be able to tell you replaced them. I finally bit the bullet and put billstein 4600 series on the front of mine and couldn't be happier

 

I assumed that the cheap Monroe shocks were trash. Thanks for confirming. Still hoping to get some opinions on Mevotech Supreme suspension parts before finally making up my mind and ordering.

 

In the 3rd gen Dakota section, Mevotech is a big no-no. Junk.
