Question 2001 Durango R/T Owners - Anyone Know What This Sensor Inside Is?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone with a 2001 R/T had any idea what the sense on the right side of the cigarette lighter was? It looks like a motion sensor for the alarm or some sort of IR blaster?

The FSM refers to that as a 'lower bezel console lamp', but I have no idea how to turn it on. I've never noticed it before and I bought my R/T new.

Yes. It is an "ambient light" comes on with the headlights. My Dakota had one too. Barely noticeable.

Thumbs up

Very interesting thanks guys! I couldn't find this in the FSM.

The 2000 Durango doesn't have this. I just stumbled on it and was puzzled. I'll check to see if it comes on with the headlights at night.

Hey Don,

I have just looked up and down the FSM I can't find this light. I couldn't even find what that bottom section is called. Do you recall what its under?

I am currently wiring in a transmission temp gauge and want to look up that wire to see if I can tap into it for the gauges light since it only comes on when the lights come on. I don't want my gauge on all the time. Seeing that this truck is controlled by the CTM its been a pain in the tail to find a HOT only when the lights come on wire to tap into.

For my tempo gauge, I used easy to get to dash light line feeding the radio.
