Cruise control won't stay on or downshift

I have a 2002 durango 5.9 r/t and the cruise will not always set and when it does it will not downshift so i have to be on the gas anyways. please help. thanks in advance.

Similar to mine. It was the brake switch. And it wasn't bad, it needed adjustment. That was all.
