Transmission Interchangeable?

I have two Durangos. 2001 RT 5.9 AWD. 2000 RT 5.9 4x4. Wondering if I can take the transmission out of the 2000 and put in the 2001? I called the local dealership and they stated that I could not because of the build codes being different. 2001 has a code of DGTS and 2000 is DGBS.

the mechanicals of the transmission should be the same, but the solenoids/sensors in the transmission are likely not (2000-2001 made some changes on these trucks). If you swap the solenoid packs electronics between the transmissions then sure it could be workable, but i dont believe it would be plug and play.

Are they both 46(44?)RE transmissions? I had thought the changes to the electronics were at the 99-00 model year changeover? Was it different for the Dakota/Durango?

it very well could have been, because the dashboard and interior changeover was btwn 2000 and 2001, im not certain about the electronics in the transmission. but since the gauge cluster went from the analogue pointer to the digital display for gear selection i would think the sensors got changed to match it . . . .

was that RAMS that were changed over 99-00?

Ah, the prn sensor. Yeah. That would likely be different.

Yep, Rams changed in 99-00.

Thanks everyone! If we try to make the swap I will let you know if it works or not.
