Shocks for 1999 Durango
 

I have since new a 99 ordered super heavy duty mechanically Durango. Has 230.000 on it, and I have replaced the shocks twice. I installed Gabriel Sencitrack, and replaced them once only because they have a lifetime warranty.
I'm going to keep this truck forever, and I keep the front end tight, so I was thinking about installing Bilstein, at $350.00 for the set of 4 makes me want to possibly get another opinion, for good shocks beyond the stock ones. I don't want anything so stiff the suspension wont move properly.
I had an outstanding experience with Bilstein on my EX 30ft motor home.
Anybody ever experience a new set of Bilstein's on all four?

I just installed kyb gasajusts. I think they ride more controlled than the old Monroe sensatracks that were on it.

Auu, gasajusts, kyb, I'll look in to those. Do you have them adjusted to full firm?

Never mind, I found out there auto adjust. Anyway sounds like you like them, one thing for sure you can get a good price on them. I'll make a decision soon.

you get gas or emulsion, brand is whatever you want to pay for, you're putting them on a 4000lb pick-up frame rig. When you spend too much you tell yourself you feel the difference, after a couple weeks you don't think about it, buy what ever color or decals you want, won't really matter.

I installed KYB MonoMax on my 2003 R/T. $200 at Rockauto, the ride's firm, but really nice. huge improvement over my worn stock ones. :)

I'm not necessarily suggesting you buy them, but I was forced for financial reasons to use RockAuto's finest cheapest possible shocks on my 03 and I was pleasantly surprised that they actually work reasonably well. Bilstein makes really good stuff, they do not use generic Chinese parts and rebrand them like most. I'd find the best set in a budget you plan and go for it. I agree that spending $300 does not necessarily give a much better ride than spending $100, but they should in all likelyhood last longer by a fair amount too than low budget shocks.

I usually go to junk yard, check all cars with same part and find one with new ones. My local 2 junk yards have probably 20 Durangos, at least one of them has new shocks.
If I need to buy new shocks, I buy cheapest, I don't know difference between them.
Theoretically (correct me if I am wrong) shocks only control (slow down) moving car up after compressing spring. Moving car down is controlled by springs. That means your ride (soft or sporty) depends on springs, not your shocks.
