I'm new to the Dodge Forum. My ex is a mechanic & always took care of vehicle, Now, it is mine, YAY, it is a 2002 Dodge Durango V8-287 4.7L SOHC and it only has 68,000 miles n it. I need to do some maintenance, oil change, tune-up, etc. I am getting different information as to what consist of a tune up. One shop tells me $300.00 for tune up and another quoted a price of $1,350.00. Yes, I'm a girl & do not know much about this stuff. I just do not want to g to a shop blind & taken advantage off. Thanks, in advance, for your help.
That's where I would start.

I believe your engine has 8 spark plugs, so I would change the plugs and wires, oil & filter. I would have the belt checked and possibly change that as well as the hoses. At 68,000 I would also have the transmission filter and fluid changed. Have the bushings and ball joints greased. Make sure it is aligned and your wheels are balanced. Oh yeah, and change the air filter if it needs it.
That's where I would start.

Quincy, do you know the history of when things were last done? If the truck is running good, the situation is not dire and you can take your time to find a mechanic that won't rob you blind. Check the oil and top it off, as well as the coolant and transmission fluid. Those three are the most important things you can do for your truck.

The 4.7 has coil packs, no wires. Unless they were changed, the ball joints should be the riveted non-greasable kind...at least my 03' was.

dont just go changing stuff, check your owners manual for service due, its most likely as simple as spark plugs and air filter at that mileage, dont waste money changing the fluids before recommendation unless you are having a problem, its just costing you money that you dont need to spend. i believe transmission fluid is 100k on that truck.
