Can't get rid of code p0700

Help me out on this one guys. My 02 Durango had the engine light come on and the trans was put into limp mode. I pulled a 700 code out of it. I checked the fluid level of the trans and it was a quart low. (yes I know that's alot for a trans). I topped the fluid off and erased the code. It shifted fine and the light stayed off for about 3 days, then back on and back into limp mode. Same 700 code. This time I replaced the rear speed sensor, then erased the code. Lasted 2 days this time. I let it go for a few days, then erased the code again. This time it lasted 1 day. What the hell could it be ? The trans shifts great when the light is not on so I see no major damage possible.
I was gonna do a fluid filter change this weekend, but the weather sucks. It does have about 60,000 miles on it so I know it needs a filter change, BUT could that be my light problem ?
Thanks, Dan

because the p700 is a tranny code all that codes says is that u have a prob with the tranny haft to have the tranny comuter scanned and see what is and go from there

How does one do that ? Can you buy a scanner that will do it, Or is this one of the $5,000. computers?
Hate involving mechanics on my vehicles, it never turns out good.

RE: Can't get rid of code p0700

as stated above the P0700 is directly related to the trans comp

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction

only an actaul scan tool, not a code puller from autozone, can gain acces to the trans control unit

i would reccomend going to a shop and having them do it, i know it sucks paying their prices as i am a tech at a shop and have been on both sides of that fence, but most times your paying for good work, as long as you go to a good shop, i would personally go to dodge dealer

keep us informed on your progress

I just looked up a reader that will do the chysler trans codes also. It is
$250. for the scan tool and $150. for the add on for chysler. Is this a decent price? The brand is auto enginuity. That was just one of the first ones I looked up quick.
What are the decent ones out there for about the same price ? I figure for as many times as I will use this and let friends borrow it, I may as well just buy one and be done with it.

[align=left]the auto enginuity setup is a great system, you dont really need the chysler addon unless you want to do dealer specific code pulls, or testing of every solenoid or electrical component on the car

For the price of that reader I would have a dealership pull the code (or at least look into how much the dealership would charge to pull the code).

RE: Can't get rid of code p0700

dealer would charge around 1/2 hour to 1 hour of labor

that 'reader' is not just a reader, is it a full fledged scantool, for the home mechanic

Well as long as it's put to good use and not sitting around collecting dust then go for it.

would I NOT need the add on if I wanted to read the transmission codes past the 0700 ?
