So you are saying that a UDP reduces HP? It actually frees up HP, again dyno proven, rather than create HP. The unorthodox pulley is one of the best ones out there also.

The MPx pulley on my older 99 neon has been on there for about 50,000 miles and the engine is still running strong.

on higher hp cars such as the srt the UDP's may gain 1-3hp peak but hp is lost in other areas. reducing the area under the curve and engine life is not worth it for a car that 1-3hp really doesnt make a difference on.

its kinda common sense...think about the reason for a harmonic dampner. engineers do not put them on cars for no reason. they are there to lessen the stress on the crank when the various accessories are engaging. UDPs that include a dampner are not such a bad idea, just those that are cheap and eliminate preventative measures put in place by car manufacturers.

it may be called a harmonic balancer but it serves no "balancing" purpose. it is a vibration dampener not some sort of balancing device.

There's a difference between a harmonic dampener, and an externally balanced engine. The Neon is not externally balanced, if it were the crank pulley/dampener would have to be keyed to keep the balancing it the same place.
UDP's are fine.

In this case, the neon IS internally balanced and the OEM pully is balanced seperately since it doesn't have a keyway to locate it on the crank. It's just a heavy lump out there on the end of the crank.
I've always wondered why they didn't cast the thing in aluminum rather than iron from the factory.
Regardless, as long as your udp isn't ridiculously out of ballance I wouldn't worry about it.
