you might have more issues than a timing belt . usually with DOHC all hell will break lose and pistons will start kissing valves

Well if your timing belt broke when you were driving down the highway, there is a 99% chance you bent some valves, meaning you will need a new gasket set, new valves or an entire new head. Here is a write up I did for the head gasket and timing belt:

mine broke three weeks ago. still trying to get the whole thing sorted out. i found a head local... because yes when my belt broke it bent valves. so it ended up costing me $250 for a head, $130 in gaskets and bolts, and labor would'v been 350 if i'd have had it done. depending on how old your car is - how have to figure out what its worth to you at this point. i fixed my dohc cuz i want to keep the car for a while.

well the reason i am thinking that its just the timing belt is, i did not here any noise that would indicate bent valve's or anything like that. It just died like it ran out of spark and thats it no wierd noises or anything

the DOHC is an interference engine. so when the timing belt broke - unless you were at near idle, probably 1500 rpms or less, the pistons and valves will try to occupy the same space. pistons always win.... lol.

mine broke at 4,000 rpms - so yes i did feel the bump when it happened. you may be lucky - its gona take a new t-belt, and a compression test to know for sure. then again maybe it'll fire up just fine and its just the belt.... it'd be nice. pray.

on top of bending my valves it scarred the sleeves and actually cracked the head. i did have 218k on my car though. hopefully yours isn't torn up that bad.

there has been many reported incidents of neon timing belts snapping with no noise heard other then the car shutting down and still have bent valves... normally happens when "going down the freeway at high speeds" We are not trying to bring you down just letting you know that more may be wrong then first look....

So unless your running 8.8:1 compresstion you are 99.9999% chance that you have some bent valves... the last 0.0001% is if god likes you a whole bunch. lol
