Downpipe's

Anyone here on the boards use one of those aftermarket downpipes found on Ebay? I'm looking to eliminate my cat and have a custom 3 inch exhaust put on.....any gains by doing this? Thanks.......

since this is about down pipes what about 1 ft of 3 inch down pipe that connects to a 2.5' exhaust.. cuz i found a flange (i think) and its connexted to 3' down pipe

So your saying that I need the additional back pressure that the cat gives? I thought that the newer cats. are made to be free flowing? My engine is not stock, so again for example....a downpipe to eliminate my cat and say a Flowmaster Exhaust system will or will not make a difference in overall performance? We do have emision checks here in Northeast OH, but I am not do for a check until 2010.......any thoughts......Thanks

cutting out my cat did about as much as a 52mm tb upgrade did. maybe he means the 3.0 pipe. 2.25 is plenty big enough. we have emissions checks in pa too... but not in the county my car is registered in:D

i had an exhaust shop replace my homemade downpipe with a bended piece of tubing they welded on. they wouldnt cut the cat off for me, but they fixed my "leaking exhaust" once it was already gone.

no cat = more hp

may equal less torque. not sure. 95to96transplantneon said that the 2.0 doesnt need much backpressure at all.

Still haven't seen a dyno to prove this theory. The neon's cat is already free flowing, so removing it doesn't gain HP.

The passageway through a stock catalytic converter has about 1/4" free flowing passage. the pic was when i pointed it directly at the sun. (the tree line was not cutting out the light) i checked with a flashlight - its the same path.

i felt a difference when i took mine off. the proof would be on a dyno though- ill give you that. i do have one or two other mods.

"Feeling a difference" is usually the person wanting to feel the difference. A dyno will prove you wrong.

the 2.0 doesent need that much backpressure and like das said they are free flowing hence not much backpressure...

And the but dyno works with like a 10 - 15 hp increase or more... if you get in and you feel like your going faster its probally just you... if you get in your car and crap your pants then it's probally the mods...
