Default 95 engine going into a 96

I have a 1996 dodge neon sohc highline that smokes like an oil field on fire. I don't want to have to spend an arm and a leg to get the rings and gasket kit that I would need to fix it so I just went out and bought a different engine out of one that's been rolled. I know that there are obvious differences in the two engines, but I do think that I can get it to work. Has anyone ever tried to do this kind of swap before? I realize that it's gonna be a little bit of work but any tips/hints would help. I already know how to drop the k frame (what little there is of one) and unhook all the mounts and cables and hoses and such, but I'd rather not have to pull the trans. Any suggestions or helpfull tips would be appreciated.
