Default Rear Thumping even AFTER replacing Struts

Ok so long story short, I just bought a 96 Neon. There is a nice deep clunking or thudding sound that seems to be coming from the rear pass side or the middle of the rear.

We replaced struts, tightened bumper, trunk, and fuel fill hose. STILL have the clunking over even the smallest bumps. I have also removed spare tire, the spare tire rod and everything else in the trunk. All this did was make it louder. I mean I have checked everywhere in the trunk and underneath to sure up anything that could/would be loose.

I am hoping someone out there has had this issue and resolved. Any help is much appreciated. I also searched the forum for rear noise and just seen one where struts fixed the issue.

This may be a longshot, but my Mom's 2005 Neon had a problem where the muffler hangers were ill adjusted and not tight enough and it would bang around - especially for hard bumps, sudden turns, etc. It was fixed when we bent the hook point for the isolater down and inward a little more and replaced the rubber isolaters with new ones.

Have you checked the suspension bushings in the rear? If their too worn out they could cause a thumping.

Did you check the strut mounts?
