car won't shut off
 

I have a friend that has a 1st gen neon... this just started today, when she takes the key out, the car doesn't shut off, i told her to disconect the battery for now but tomorrow i'm going to take a look at it. i just wanted to ask you guys if this was a common thing with these cars? and if any one has any suggestions? thank you. also it's automatic

The car wont shut off?!?!?!! Probaly something wrong with a relay in the ignition.

check all the fuses...if not then put a kill switch in the thing that would be the cheapest route

Shorted ignition switch maybe? Taking the key to the OFF position should kill the ASD relay, which will kill power to the fuel injectors, O2 sensors, and coilpack. Pretty bizarre, only the 2nd time I have heard of it happening on a Neon (if that's what it is...).

You can replace the ignition cylinder pretty easily, although I have no idea how much the part (and new key) would run. The one for my old Civic was $25 or so, but that was nearly 15 years ago... But do a good check of the wiring going into there first, make sure nothing is melting, frayed, etc.
