LA318 to Magnum
 

Does anybody know if I can upgrademy '91 318 to a magnum - specifically I'd like to know if you can swap the electronic injection in since it should help with mileage. Any thoughts if thats possible?
Or, if it isnt, anybody looking to unload a Magnum 318?

Ive gone and confused myself. I just read that the magnum is not EFI, its multiport. I just confusing myself

forget swapping your engine, just get a new magnum to throw in there. i found a website that can set you up with a magnum 318 for around a grand. just go have some fun with your truck and blow the motor, then you'll really have a reason to swap!

u can swap heads and the MPI manifold it'd just be a pain to wire the system in to work right.

i see. so pricewise what am i looking at? labour is my own so that isnt so mujch a concern - although if droppping a new engine in is as simple as puttin it in and hooking up the gauges then maybe ill just do that.

Actually i have read two good books on the subject, But i'm no expert, short from it. But i believe the heads are not able to be swapped because of the way they oill the upper end. Don't Magunum oil through the pushrods so you would need hollow pushrods and all the valvetrain components along with it (valve springs, rockers, seals, valves, retainers, and keepers). But you can't use stock Magnum pushrods because they will be too short. Keeping the current "A" engine camis another problem, the tappets will need to changed to the AMC V8 tappets. All this info is straight from the the book How To Modify Your Mopar Magnum V8. It is on page 80, if anyone is doubting the info. Sounds to me like it would be plenty exspensive. I am not sure about the fuel injection, though you would need the computer and could possibly hang your self up on the crank sensor. You would need this to tell the computer to fire the injectors, andI don't know much about the TBI motors, if you could use that crank sensor that it uses or what, it would also need a cam sensor in distributor for spark, again, i am not sure about if you have one or not. This is all i know about this, just ask if you need anymore help, glad to give it to ya!

I am not sure at the moment but some sells a kit to use the magnum heads.

wow, judging by jacob1 it looks like it would just be best to buy a reman'd or junk yard magnum and rebuild it. You could probably get a 4 barrel magnum intake that might fit the newer magnums because i kno some of the old Mopar muscle cars had 318 magnums that weren't EFI or MPI. But dont take my word for it or quote me lol[sm=icon_quiet.gif]

thanks all. looks like im gonna try to locate amagnum in need of TLC...or maybe ill throw a diesel in. I guess ill see what comes up.
