92 ram 150 Steering play
Hello All. I have a 1992 Dodge ram 150 2wd and the steering seems to have a little play in it. Does anyone know anything about the steering boxes in these trucks? I know the chevys used to have an adjustment not sure if this one does. Any help would be appreciated!!

Have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look at the shaft going into the gear box. There is a connector on the bottom of the steering shaft at the gear box that wears and gets play in it. Dodge has a repair kit for this problem. If this is the problem the shaft above connector will move and the part going into the gear box will not.

Look at the top of the steering box. There's a medium sized jamb nut on an allen adjusting screw. Back the nut off, then you can tighten the allen screw down. Don't tighten it too much or it'll just wear out faster. It takes a little trial and error to get it right, but it's an easy fix.
Also, if the rag joint is shot, replace it. They're cheap.
And lastly if that stupid slip connector has eaten itself, do yourself a favor and buy the Borgeson steering shaft. It's MUCH better. I had all three problems with my truck and it made a huge difference. 230k miles will wear stuff out.
